One foot out the door

Undertaking anything of any real significance is always a daunting process-- daunting, that is, if you actually intend to see it through to it's eventual end. Many people begin business projects, personal relationships,  and so-called 'life changing' endeavors with no real intention of actually finishing what they've started. Or they start with the unspoken condition that if things don't go the way they want them to, they can always get out. That's a round-a-bout way of saying: They just quit. Isn't that the way we do things these days? If you don't like it-- get a new one or return it. Or maybe claim that there was some defect present in it from the start...perhaps you can just get store credit and be happy with that. There will be a chance to get something else, something better down the road.
And what road would that be? A road of self-preservation and selfishness. A road of little risk if any, and even less in the way of difficulty. A road of complacency and few discomforts. A road of insignificant gain. A road not worth traveling.
As I mentioned, to begin something which may require not just hours of your time, but days, months or even years is to stand at a frightening threshold. But at that critical juncture where I begin to count the cost offset by the urging of my heart, the only thing I need to know is this: I will never get there, if I do not start.
